America Healthcare is Upheld - Big Win for President Obama

Supreme Court Finds Frivolous Lawsuit to Be Frivolous; Upholds “Obamacare”

Today's ruling was an enormous win for the Obama administration, and will likely lead to a fundraising bonanza for corporate front-groups opposed to the law.

The Supreme Court made conservative heads explode and lots of legal experts look clueless today when Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court's moderate wing to uphold ObamaCare in its entirety – with a few twists (most legal observers had predicted that if Roberts upholds, Justice Anthony Kennedy would as well, but Kennedy voted to strike down the entire law). It was a historic win for Congressional Democrats and the Obama administration.

Both CNN and Fox News had 'Dewey Defeats Truman!' moments when they reported, immediately after the ruling was handed down, that the mandate had been struck down as unconstitutional. (An Associated Press editor later sent around a memo telling AP staff to "stop taunting" their competitors who'd blown the call.)

That was based on a partial read. The majority effectively upheld the controversial mandate requiring people to carry coverage or pay a modest penalty, but Roberts wrote that it couldn't be sustained under the Constitution's Commerce Clause because, in his view, Congress can regulate economic activity, but not inactivity. Rather, he ruled that the penalty for not carrying insurance was kosher under Congress's taxation powers.

President Obama Delivers good news to children of law-abiding Illegal Immigrants

It is nice to see the compassion of President Obama expressed in his pronouncement to spare the youths of children brought to live in the USA with parents who did not have the proper immigration documents but who none-the-less have contributed to America's economy in a big way. On behalf of all those youths who can now look to the future with some optimism I say thank you President Obama for having a heart.

Do you see how silly and superficial we are to discriminate base on race and skin colour? We are all related. We come from the same stock and many of those who are prancing around as so called whites have black blood coursing through their veins and vice versa.

President Obama has taken a bold step into the Future

President Obama has done the right thing and it took a lot of courage and determination to do so. This is what human rights and humanitarianism are about. Young people who cross the border or who were taken across the border as children should be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of American citizenship. If they lead law-abiding lives and are contributing to the economy that is no reason to punish.
Many Americans are hypocritical when it comes to border issues. They know that workers are needed for the farms. Without workers who are paid little or nothing under the table, Americans will not be able to live the comfortable lives most of them live. Mexicans and other people without the proper documentations only want a better life for themselves and their children and are prepared to work for that. Thanks President Obama for making that possible for poor people.

The AFL-CIO and the SEIU are applauding President Obama's decision to give work permits to young, law-abiding undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, rather than deporting them.

"President Obama showed leadership and courage," according to SEIU Secretary Treasurer Eliseo Medina, on a "common sense move [that] is fiscally responsible and widely supported."
"President Obama is showing great courage in taking this action, and it presents a stark contrast with the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee who has vowed to stop the DREAM Act if elected. In Congress, polarizing partisan politics kept the DREAM Act from becoming law in 2010.

"Through President Obama’s courageous leadership, DREAM eligible students can get relief from the immediate threat of deportation. The president has now done all he can do, but the kind of relief he is able to grant is temporary. It is now up to Congress to pass the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform, which is the only way that the dreams of these productive Americans can be realized."
"We are thrilled," AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said in a statement.
The President’s actions bring much-needed security and encouragement to our nation's youth who can finally live without fear of separation from their families and deportation to a country they barely remember. [...] The AFL-CIO commends the Administration for its courage and leadership in taking an important step towards a more just America.

President Obama’s announcement is a critical step that begins to address our nation’s dire need for comprehensive immigration reform. We call on both parties to work with the President towards a legislative solution that will address the parents and families of these immigrant youth, and the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows.I'll add more as they come in. Meanwhile, thank President Obama for bringing young immigrants one step closer to the American dream.

9:58 AM PT: Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen:
We will continue to work for the dreams and aspirations of all working Americans. Regardless of our birth place, we share common goals. We applaud President Obama and his team for this huge step forward. It makes us more determined to keep pushing forward and to never give up.
